More than 240 attend Business Breakfast

The Brown County Chamber of Commerce set a mark this week that will raise the bar for the organization for years to come.

The always popular Business Breakfast drew a crowd of more than 240 people Monday at the Georgetown Church of Christ surpassing past attendance marks.
The breakfast started in 2003 with the swearing in of new officers, the presentation of the first Drucker Award of Distinction given to Brown County General Hospital and Lifetime Achievement Awards to Calvin and Ruth Cahall of Cahall Brothers John Deere. It was very evident with this first breakfast that the Chamber was onto something as more than 200 attended the event at the Georgetown Eagles Community Building.

The breakfast has always been a special event. How far this event has progressed was evident Monday. Chamber President Kelly Cornette apologized for starting late but the crowd was so big it took a while to get folks checked in and through the door (everyone came at once).  However, no one seemed to mind as the coffee and the conversation flowed.

This year Chatfield College joined Brown County General Hospital (now Southwest Regional Hospital), Kibler Lumber Company, Sardinia Ready Mix, Georgetown IGA (Jim Griswold), Rumpke Waste Management (Todd Rumpke), Gabbard’s Mt. Orab Ford (Gerald Gabbard), Al Norris (Adams Brown Economic Opportunities Inc.) and Cahall Brothers John Deere as a Drucker winner.

Chatfield college was founded in 1845 in northern Brown County by a group of Ursuline Sisters from France, led by Julia Chatfield. The private Catholic liberal arts college offers Associate Arts degrees at the St. Martin and Cincinnati campuses.

John Tafaro, Chatfield College president, accepted the Drucker award and commendations from State Senator Tom Niehaus, State Representative Danny Bubp and Congresswoman Jean Schmidt.

The slide show and introduction of the Drucker winner was very informative. The introduction of Becky Cropper for the Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award was equally entertaining and informative.

The community benefits from this awards program just in educational value alone. Seeing and hearing about successful businesses and community leaders is an inspiration to us all.

This month The News Democrat and Ripley Bee hosted the regularly scheduled monthly Chamber meeting and nearly 50 people attended. Another benchmark for the organization.

Through the Chamber, businesses are quickly realizing the value of exchanging information and networking. When everyone pushes together – only good can come from it. Chamber organizers are to be congratulated for their efforts.
